So February is here already how are you getting on with your new year resolutions? The majority of people by now have given up already. One of the main resolutions people make is around fitness and losing weight. They join a gym, go on a diet and within weeks are back to their old habits. The problem most people find with exercise is that it can be boring. So how do you make exercise more fun? This article looks at one way you can make it more fun and have a goal in mind.
Get Fit and Learn to Protect Yourself

One of the biggest problems with just joining a gym and getting into shape is that although it is a community event as in there are lots of people around you it is often quite a lonely process. You go to the gym, usually alone, you train alone, you put on your ipod and train in your own world. Normally if you don’t get results quickly you give up.

You could get a personal trainer and this is not a bad idea but this will increase the cost of your training.

How about learning to martial arts?

Martial arts is a great way to get fit and learn to protect yourself at the same time. It doesn’t have to be full contact and you can train at your own pace. The best part though is that you don’t train alone. You train as a group with a group trainer who keeps an eye on all of the members of his or her class so you get the benefit of both the group encouragement and a personal trainer, but at less cost that hiring a personal trainer.

The good thing about martial arts is that it also gives you a goal to work to. You want to get fitter so you can get faster and better. You can aim for going for your next belt and improving on your skill set. It is also one of the best forms of fitness around.

On top of all the fitness benefits there is also the benefit of learning to defend yourself. Today’s world is unfortunately a violent and dangerous place at times learning to defend yourself is a wise lifestyle choice. Hopefully you will never need to use this skill set but it is always nice to know you can if you need to.
